York and the Lake District

The following itinerary was designed for three families who wished to visit the historical sites of York and to enjoy the scenic vistas of the Lake District.

We can design an original tour for your family and friends to the destinations of your choice.

York Minster

Day 1   CAMBRIDGE and YORK (4 nights)

We will  travel  to York this morning.  En route we will visit Cambridge and take a walking tour.

 

Day 2    YORK
This morning, we will enjoy a walking tour of the medieval walls and a visit to the Yorkshire Museum where we will see many artifacts from the Roman, Anglo-Saxon, Viking and medieval eras in York.  Later, we will visit the Jorvik Centre, a recreation of Viking York.
Day 3    YORK    
We will take a guided tour of York Minster this morning.  Free time to explore the city in the afternoon.

 

Day 4    CASTLE HOWARD AND NORTH YORK MOORS RAILWAY

We will visit Castle Howard, the stately historic home of the Howards.  This afternoon, we will take a ride on the scenic railway that runs through the moors,and which was  used in Harry Potter

 

 Day 5    YORK – HAWORTH – LAKE DISTRICT (3 nights)

We visit the Bronte Parsonage, and take a walk  on the moors (weather permitting) before continuing to the Lake District.

 

Day 6    LAKE DISTRICT

This morning, we will stop at Hilltop, the home of Beatrix Potter.  Enjoy a hike through the scenery of the Lake District this afternoon.

 

Day 7    LAKE DISTRICT

Visits include Dove Cottage (Wordsworth’s Home),  Aira Force (scenic waterfall), Keswick, and Castlerigg Stone Circle

 

Day 8    LAKE DISTRICT – STRATFORD UPON AVON OR WARWICK  - RETURN HOME

On our way home, we will make a stop at either Holy Trinity Church and Shakespeare’s Birthplace, or at historic Warwick Castle.  We return home this evening.
