William Shakespeare
Shakespeare is, of course, most associated with the Warwickshire town of
Stratford-upon-Avon. The town is like a shrine to him with references
everywhere. There are five "Shakespearean Properties" that you
can visit in the area. These are: his
Birthplace, Anne
Hathaway's Cottage in Shottery (his wife's childhood home), Mary
Arden's House (his mother's childhood home in Wilmcote), Hall's
Croft (his daughter's marital home) and New
Place (to which he retired - now only the foundations remain)
In addition to these five sites, you can see his grave in Holy
Trinity Church on the banks of the Avon and see the school it is
assumed he must have attended as a boy
