Robert Burns
Burns was born in a modest, thatched cottage in Alloway, Ayrshire. His birthplace is a museum and
shrine open to the public and, together with the nearby "Auld
Kirk", the "Auld Brig o'Doon" and the Burns Monument, they
form the Burns Heritage Park.
He spent his last years and died in
Dumfries where he frequented a selection of pubs in an attempt to numb the
pain from his illness. His house is now a museum and the street has been
renamed Burns Street.
In Edinburgh, the Writers' Museum
contains his writing desk, original manuscripts and personal possessions.
