Battlefields of Northern France The tour shown starts in London but it could just as easily start in Paris. We have included all of the most popular sights and a few lesser known ones such as the shell of the church at Graignes. There is a moving story there as, on June 6, 1944, the Germans executed American prisoners and the villagers who had helped them . Many people have a loved one who has a grave or memorial in Northern France and we will always try to include a visit to pay respects and lay flowers. This itinerary can be adapted/extended to include the Battle of the Bulge and America's World War I sites further south. Day 1 IN FLIGHT FROM USA Depart USA en route for London (could easily be adapted to start and finish in Paris)
Day 2 ARRIVE IN LONDON
Day 3 LONDON – PORTSMOUTH – STE.MERE EGLISE (1 night) Ferry from Portsmouth to Cherbourg
Day 4 STE.MERE EGLISE – UTAH BEACH - ARROMANCHES (2 nights) Airborne Museum in Ste.Mere Eglise, Utah Beach Museum and naval communication bunker, Ste Mairie du Mont, Shell of church at Graignes, Pointe du Hoc
Day 5 OMAHA BEACH AND BAYEUX Arromanches Museum, Longues-sur-Mer Battery, Omaha Beach Cemetery, Omaha Beach at St.Laurent and Vierville, Bayeux Tapestry and Cathedral
Day 6 THE BRITISH AND CANADIAN SECTOR AND CAEN – ROUEN (1night) Gold, Juno and Sword beaches, Pegasus Bridge, Caen Peace Museum (La Memorial), Abbaye aux Hommes in Caen (William the Conqueror’s grave)
Day 7 ROUEN – SOMME BATTLEFIELD (1 night ) Walking tour of Rouen including La Place du Vieux Marche, La Gros Horloge and Cathedral, Lochnagar Crater, Thiepval Memorial, Newfoundland Memorial at Beaumont-Hamel (preserved battlefield and trenches)
Day 8 BACK TO ENGLAND, KENT (2 nights) Agincourt battlefield and museum, La Coupole (V1 and V2 bunker)
Day 9 KENT AND SUSSEX Battle Abbey and Hastings battlefield, Chartwell (Winston Churchill’s home) or Dover Castle
Day 10 DEPARTURE Transfer to airport for flight back to the USA
