Provence, Aquitaine and Paris

This is  a tour for Francophiles and art-lovers. It is full of our favourite out of the way places that we have discovered through years of visiting southern France.

Imagine having a picnic of the best produce (which  you have chosen that morning from the market in St.Remy-De-Provence) among the vines, olives and lavender in the shadow of Mont St.Victoire and then, as Cezanne did so many times, painting it during the afternoon.

There are so many other highlights but, if we had to pick one, it would be the visit to the Grotte de Font-De-Gaume. Only 200 visitors per day are allowed entrance but you will see the finest prehistoric paintings open to the public in the whole of France if not the world. It is difficult to comprehend that these paintings are 14,000 years old.

Painting: Sunflowers, Vincent Van Gogh
