A Residency in Ripon Cathedral This residency is based in the charming town of Ripon. Ripon Cathedral has the oldest crypt in England, dating back to the the 7th century. Each night, a "wakeman" still blows a horn to announce curfew - a practice that has been going on since the 9th century. Ripon is ideally located for wonderful day trips to some of the most historic and scenic towns and sites in the north of England.
